Travel Teams

Our boys' and girls' travel teams offer coaching opportunities for those interested in working with athletes anywhere from 12U to 18U. Travel teams run from late November/early December through late March-early May. They are designed for athletes looking to grow and compete around the state or East Coast.

CAVC offers several different team levels within our travel teams - Club, Power, and Elite. These teams are made up of different skill levels and require different time commitments. You can read more about the differences between our team levels here.

Coaching a travel team is a good fit for someone who can attend practices 2-3x per week (depending on the team level). Experience planning practices is optional, as we can pair assistant coaches with experienced head coaches who take on more of the practice planning. Travel team coaches travel to tournaments between 4 and 10 times per season, depending on the team level.

CAValiers or CAVonauts

Our two co-ed, developmental programs are CAValiers (grades 6-9) and CAVonauts (grades 2-5). These programs are designed to be a place where athletes with less experience or less time to commit can continue to develop their volleyball skills or even just start learning the game! These programs take place in 8-12 week sessions in the fall, winter, and spring and meet once per week on Sundays.

Coaching CAVonauts or CAValiers is a great opportunity for coaches who are looking for non-travel positions and/or enjoy working with younger or less experienced athletes to build solid fundamentals. These programs tend to have a less competitive, more developmental focus.

Coaches with limited coaching experience may find these programs a good starting place. No practice planning is necessary from assistant coaches, and program content tends to be simpler.

Coaching FAQs

Can it work with my busy schedule?

Absolutely! We have several different levels of coaching commitments. Whether you want to spend one night a week coaching without any travel commitments, two days a week with a few tournaments, or multiple days a week with lots of tournaments, there are positions that can work.

We have positions that require no prep work and positions that require some practice or competition planning.

Do coaches get paid for their services?

Yes! All coaches receive payment for their services and hard work. Coaches are paid hourly and pay rates are determined by the level of commitment, skill required, involvement, etc.

In addition, all mandatory certifications and memberships are reimbursed, and coaches are provided with CAVC gear for free!

I am new to coaching. Can I do it?

Most definitely! We welcome beginner coaches and strive to provide opportunities who simply want to dip their toes into the coaching world. Coaches will be matched with one or more other coaches to create a well-rounded coaching team with various levels of experience for their program or travel team.

How old will the athletes I'm coaching be?

Charlottesville Area Volleyball Club works with athletes in 1st grade through 12th grade, so there are opportunities to work with athletes of any of those ages. Some of our coaches work with athletes of very specific age groups (for example, 13 and 14 year olds only) while some work with a whole range of ages (5-10 year olds). In your interest form, let us know what ages you are most comfortable working with!
