Travel Team Expenses

 

CAVC does our best to keep our travel teams as accessible as possible to central Virginia athletes. However, there are a large number of expenses associated with playing travel volleyball, some of which are covered by your team dues and some of which you will be responsible for separately.

Team dues for the season cover the cost of coaching staff, tournaments, practice gym space, team gear, jerseys, equipment, coach travel & lodging for tournaments, and administration. These expenses help create a high quality, fun, and growth-filled experience for our athletes and coaches. 

Other expenses that are associated with our travel teams are AAU and USA Volleyball memberships (required), travel to tournaments, food and lodging while at tournaments, equipment outside of the provided team gear, tournament apparel, etc. These costs are variable, depending on the level of team you are on and your own personal preferences.

 

Deposit

 

When an athlete is offered a spot on a travel team, a $300 non-refundable deposit will be required to accept the position. This deposit will go towards your team dues. Remaining team dues will be split into monthly payments, due in October, November, December, and January.

We require a deposit when accepting your position on a travel team out of fairness to other athletes. Each year at tryouts, we have more athletes try out than we can place on teams. When you accept a spot on a team, another athlete misses out on the opportunity to play on a CAVC team. As a result, it's very important to us that athletes who accept their offer to join a team are taking their commitment seriously and intend to contribute to their team throughout the season.

 

Team Dues

 

Each year, team dues fluctuate slightly depending on tournament schedules and entry fees, gym space rental fees, administrative expenses, and coach travel & lodging expenses for tournaments. For the 2025-26 season, we are estimating dues will be:

18 Elite Team | $2,700 - $3,000

15-17 Elite Teams | $4,800 - $5,200

Power Teams | $1,750 - $2,100

Club Teams | $1,200 - $1,500

Team dues will be divided into monthly payments due in October, November, December, and January. Athletes and their families will have the opportunity to participate in fundraising opportunities in order to cover part or all of their team dues. 

 

Scholarships & Fundraising

 

Each year, CAVC extends scholarships, financial assistance, and fundraising opportunities to several travel team athletes who have the ability to make a valuable contribution to a CAVC travel team but whose families are not in a position to pay the travel team dues in full out-of-pocket.

Any athlete's family is eligible to participate in fundraising opportunities through Aramark. These opportunities are currently limited to family members and athletes ages 18+. You can find out more on our Scholarships page.

To qualify for a scholarship or financial assistance, athletes must show demonstrated financial need. Athletes may be offered a partial scholarship, an extended payment plan, a delayed payment plan, or a work scholarship.

New this year, in order to be eligible for a scholarship or financial assistance, athletes must fill out the Scholarship Application PRIOR to tryouts. Athletes without a Scholarship Application on file at tryouts will not qualify for scholarship support or financial assistance.
